Antahkarana
अन्तःकरण
Antaḥkaraṇa
Four intellectual or psychological operating systems are collectively called Antahkaran: They are: Mana(mind), Buddh(intellect)i, Ahamkara(ego), and Citta (consciousness).
Manas (lower mind) controls the sankalpa (will or resolution) is the seat of desire and governor of sensory and motor organs
Buddhi (intellect) is the discriminatory power which controls decision making.
Ahamkara (ego) identifies the jiva (self) with the body as 'I'
Citta(consciousness) is subtle than the other three. Just as Mahatattva is primordial form of universe, Citta is primordial form of body. Citta is first to appear or develop in the body. Citta work in the subconscious level, but it is not the subconscious mind. Ahamkara is derived from Citta.
